Garden Update – August 1st, 2010

I guess I owe you guys a Garden Update, it has been awhile…

The zucchini is still growing. on the other hand, the zucchini is still growing. We are making zucchini cakes (like crab cakes without the crab) and zucchini bread and ratatouille (to freeze for winter) and zucchini lasagna and zucchini… you get the picture. Lots of zucchini. Lots of tomatillos too. So we are into salsa, but they work great roasted with peas or green beans. Still no eggplant, other than the ones from the CSA, and still no tomatoes, except for the Framer’s Market. I am not sure what to do to get eggplants and tomatoes to grow, but we’ll work on it next year. We cut back the squash vines that were done, so Cyndy planted fennel and cilantro. She also got new lettuce and pea seeds for a Fall Harvest, so we are going to keep this going awhile this year. We are also looking to replant the potato bags to try to get another harvest before Thanksgiving.
This weekend we started building a new raised bed between us and Margie, just for squash & zucchini so we can let the other vegetables have more room in the original raised bed. We are hoping this will help get more sun, etc on the plants that were being chocked out. We’ll see.
Anyone who has ideas for plantings now for  Fall Harvest, I would love to hear from you, we want to keep the fresh raw vegetables going as long as we can.
